Brian Berenty
Brian Berenty grew up in Southern California and moved to Buenos Aires in 2010.
I majored in Creative Writing and was always fascinated by architecture, history, travel and the variety of cultures that exist throughout the world. However, I fell in love at an early age with my soul-mate and dutifully followed a career path in business, owning a secretarial service in Boston, a restaurant in San Diego, worked as a Financial Consultant in London and finally owned a spa in Belize.
After going up and down the business and corporate ladder, I have returned to my earlier passions and combine my love of writing with my passion for travel, architecture, history and cultures. I have had the privilege of traveling to nearly 3 dozen countries throughout Europe, North, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. I’ve even been on safari in Africa!
My heart has been drawn to Argentina and Buenos Aires since I first saw the Broadway musical Evita! with Patti LuPone (twice!). I relocated here permanently in 2010 with my stunningly beautiful wife of 27 years (I was married at 12), my awesome daughter, amazing grandson and two dogs. Given our unique family dynamics, I like to scour around for the best deals on flights and meticulously research the best places to stay. I like small, charming hotels and love to find a good value, but don’t do budget, backpack or stay in hostels, and I’m proud to say I’ve not eaten in a McDonald’s or similar in 25 years. My ideal of a perfect vacation runs the gamut from relaxing beach holidays to city breaks to explore architecture, museums and great restaurants.
I am passionate about travel and get excited when others are inspired to live, look and love outside the box. I am constantly challenged by new and exciting opportunities. To date, my mother continues to write our address and phone number in her address book in pencil and have an eraser ready. Don’t worry, mom! I think I’ll be here a while!
Ryan Cassidy
Ryan Cassidy is from Massachusetts and has been living in Buenos Aires since 2008.
I grew up as a fat kid in the suburbs. In college I studied Fine Arts and Graphic Design. I worked full-time for almost a decade in the printing industry doing design and production work. The daily grind eventually wore on me. Instead of doing the responsible thing, like saving money and buying a condo, I saved money, sold my things, and blindly moved to the “Paris of South America.”
Now I work as a freelance graphic designer and, in my downtime, I consume mass quantities of the local culture. I love it here in Buenos Aires and consider myself sort of an expert, at least with the local street maps. Even my local friends don’t know the order of streets from 9 de Julio to Paseo Colon south of Rivadavia. Easy!
